Jamie Lee Curtis, and her company Comet Pictures, has signed a three year, first look, deal with Blumhouse for both film and television. The first collaboration has been announced as a horror film based on climate change called “Mother Nature”. Jamie Lee Curtis will direct and it shall be written by herself and Russell Goldman, the new head of development at Comet Pictures.
Jamie Lee Curtis and Blumhouse have worked together in the highly successful Halloween movie. So it is only appropriate that she makes her directorial debut be with them as well. Halloween went on to make than $255 million worldwide and was the highest grossing film with a female lead over the age of 55. Two additional films in the series, Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends, are slated to release on October 16, 2020 and October 15, 2021 respectively. With Jamie Lee Curtis as the Executive Producer of all three films of the Halloween relaunch franchise.
This is not only Curtis’ first time at the head of a project. She is set to direct and executive produce, How We Sleep at Night: The Sara Cunningham Story for Lifetime. As well as directing credits include Scream Queens and Anything But Love.
So it seems, the female lead that is synonymous with the title of “Scream Queen” is set to begin a new chapter of her life as a director. A lifetime of experience and numerous iconic roles should lend themselves to helping Jamie Lee Curtis in directing and producing new films. And with Blumhouse behind her, the future for Jamie Lee Curtis looks to be promising as she steps into a role of directing a new generation of films.
