The news has been expected. Warner Brothers will be having layoffs with DC comics, according to Bleeding Cool. Variety has numbered 650 layoffs while HBO expected to lose 175. 800 layoffs.
These come in the wake of a major overhaul at Warner Bros lead by new Warner CEO Jason Kilar. Changed have already seen HBO Max programming leaders Bob Greenblatt, Kevin Reilly and Keith Cocozza go as part of an attempt to merge WarnerMedia’s production operations into one, as Warners chief Ann Sarnoff in now in charge of developing content for HBO Max while Andy Forssell, general manager of HBO Max is now in charge of the new entity, while HBO’s Casey Bloys also has expanded responsibilities. In a memo to staff, Kilar talked about “reducing the size of our teams, our layers, and our overall workforce” and that seems to be what’s going down right now. There are a number who expect DC Universe to be absorbed in all of this, which might make the upcoming DC Fandome online event a little awkward. DC Comics did, however, not respond to enquiries made this morning
Bleeding Cool is being told that staff were just told they are being laid off, and their positions will be eliminated in December.
