2018 Slasher Radio Recap

by Slasher Radio

This year has been one HELL of a ride for Slasher Radio! As we settle in to the final days of 2018, I want to take a step back and reflect on all of the insanely admirable guests we’ve featured as well as the heavy hitting horror films we’ve covered. Sit back and reminisce with me as I journey back through the past 12 macabre months.

Starting 2018 fresh on January 1st with Episode 14, we covered James Wan’s “Saw 2” flick. Fans of the franchise may agree that this is one of the best of the entire series of “Saw” films, other than the original, of course! We headed through the rest of January with an interview from Randy Greenback who is known for his work on the frightfully fun “Friday the 13th: The Game” which is a favorite among hosts here at Slasher Radio. If you haven’t had the chance to check it out, you have no idea what you’re missing! Grab the game and play with or as Jason, then tune in to our episode with Randy as he gives some details on its development.

February 2018 began just as strong with Episode 19 sneaking in for Blumhouse’s releases, “Creep” 1 and 2. Peachfuzz began taking horror crowds by storm as word got around about that big bad wolf. He serves as a reminder to be wary of those you may encounter on the internet! Speaking of creeps..on Episode 20 we delved into Kevin’s 23 personalities when we talked about the 2016 blockbuster, “Split”. February was an important month for Slasher Radio as that’s when we landed our partnership with the genre’s biggest streaming service, Shudder! We utilized Episode 22 as a spot to highlight our Top 5’s from the selections at Shudder. Don’t have an account with Shudder? Not to worry..you can still get 30 FREE days by using the “SlasherPod” promo code! Give it a shot..you’ve got nothing to lose!

Of course, we couldn’t get through March 2018 without covering “The Leprechaun”. Episode 24 covered the 1993 flick, but wait.. there’s more! As luck may have it, 2019 has a new Leprechaun film in its pot of gold with “Leprechaun Returns”. Unfortunately, you’ll hear us discuss this film after its release in the coming months. Don’t worry..we redeemed ourselves with Episode 26 and 27 as we talked “The Strangers: Prey at Night” with lead actor Damien Maffei!

In April, we brought indie filmmaker Brandon Rhiness back for round 2 in Episode 29 with Mike Schaar-Ney and headed out with “Midnight Meat Train” with an appearance from Stevie Juice! There’s never a dull moment when the Juice comes around. Keep an eye out.. you never know when he’ll pop in!

My, oh my..May 2018! Episode 32 was my introduction to the Slasher Radio crew and listeners. I had a great time chatting it up with the boys about my time at Fangoria and I can’t thank them enough for allowing me to speak out about the transition of the legendary magazine company. Not to mention, Bonez was forced to make good on the ONE bet he lost. If you want to hear Bonez squeal in pain, head back to check it out and listen to his heart break on air. May continued with chaos as we interviewed the iconic Crypt Keeper, John Kassir and the 2019 “Leprechaun Returns” star Linden Porco.

June 2018 was certainly a doozy as we interviewed the Candyman himself. Don’t let the voice fool you! Tony Todd is a truly kind soul and we were honored to feature him in Episode 37 as we talked about his many contributions to the genre. Following the Todd interview in which we shared admiration, we dove straight into a snake pit with the original “The Texas Chain Saw Massacre“. We finally went head to head on this controversial and maniacally good film as we played tug of war on its pros and cons. On topic of gore, we finished out June with a true crime session with Amber on the vicious murderer, Gerard John Schaefer.

Mid-year delivered a gift for all horror fans with an actual Friday the 13th in July! You know we’d never let you down on this KILLER day. We released a BONUS episode with “Friday the 13th” film composer Harry Manfredini who slayed the interview with his vast knowledge and work on the franchise. Manfredini must have put a magic touch on Slasher Radio because Episode 42 featured a film that both Bonez and myself agree on, “Joy Ride”! To highlight the theme of the film, I shared a personal story HERE if you’d like to hear about the true horrors of the open road.

Episode 45 started August off with a bang as we welcomed a few cast members from the 2018 “Unfriended: Dark Web” film for a group interview. Keeping the momentum going, we featured Diane Franklin (AMITYVILLE II: THE POSSESSION) in Episode 46 to talk about her role and experience in the upcoming production, “The Amityville Murders”! We were fortunate enough to receive the FIRST details about the new installment of this murderous film. Slasher Radio saw two more impactful interviews in August with Javier Botet (IT, THE CONJURING 2) and Douglas Tait (HELLBOY (2019), FREDDY VS. JASON).

September 2018 marked our first franchise recommendation by listener EyeRChris with “Hatchet” in Episode 50! We hacked our way through all three films and touched base on its fourth and newest installment, “Victor Crowley”. From the swamp in Louisiana, we headed to Lake Pleasant in Arizona where the infamous underwater statue of Jason Voorhees still lives today. Its creator, Zach Nagy, took us through the muddy waters of the statue’s controversy in Episode 53 and gave us details on the making of Jason from scratch. The Jason statue story went viral and Slasher Radio launched a petition to keep the creepily cool creation submerged. We felt the love from the horror community as several notable media outlets helped spread the news about the dilemma and petition which yielded thousands of signatures. Many thanks to ALL of you who signed the petition and to: Bloody-Disgusting, Dread Central, Jo-Blo, iHorror, and all other media outlets for the support and coverage. And, shout out to “Groovy Bruce”, Bruce Campbell, for the Retweet via Twitter to help spread the news!

Our ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY hit in October 2018 and we spent the day with the “Tales From the Crypt” series! We featured the Crypt Keeper on an earlier episode and it was great to cover the show itself as it’s one of the most memorable and impactful horror series to date. The anniversary episode featured voice messages from various listeners and appearances by our celebrity guests Diane Franklin and the Crypt Keeper himself, John Kassir!

We kept the treats coming in October in Episode 54 with an interview from James Jude Courtney who played Michael Myers in the 2018 “Halloween” film! Courtney’s enthusiasm and passion for the genre came through in his performance and we’re extremely excited that the film killed it at the box office! Episode 55 featured “Blair Witch Project” co-director Eduardo Sanchez who delivered some insanely eerie info on the film we had never heard about before the interview. Be sure to listen to hear the ins and outs of the production of the wicked woodsy flick from one of the main minds that brought it to life. Although the movie “Halloween” was most talked about during this time, we topped off the month as we reflected on Halloween as the holiday for Episode 57. October ended as heavy as it started with Episode 58 that featured an interview with “Scream” franchise star, David Arquette, and a BONUS episode with Doug “Pinhead” Bradley (HELLRAISER)!

November brought the evil out in us all as we covered the sinister 2015 film, “The Devi’s Candy”! This indie film seemed to have flown under the radar so we wanted to highlight the film and give it the credit it deserves. Do yourself a favor and watch this wicked flick as soon as possible. Episode 63 was another Shudder highlighted show which featured an interview with Michael Berryman as we covered the 1984 Wes Craven classic, “The Hills Have Eyes 2”!

“30 Days of Night” eased in as the year grew colder this December for Episode 64. This brutal vampire film was adapted from the comic book of the same name and is sure to satisfy all of you blood-thirsty horror fans. This month was topped off much softer than it started as we covered the insanely adorable “Gremlins” film on Christmas day, and TWO listeners won a super sweet Gizmo plush for our December giveaway.

Many thanks to BigBadToyStore.com and HouseOfMysteriousSecrets.com for the awesome giveaway items that were up for grabs over the past few months!
