It won’t be long before DOOM Eternal hits store shelves this Friday for XBox One, PS4, PC, and Steam. In celebration of this one-of-a-kind gore fest FPS let’s have a look back at the previous installments in the series.
After the huge success of DOOM it didn’t take long for a sequel to come. And it was on Hell of a sequel!
DOOM II: Hell on Earth released in 1994 and was met with critical success. Most sequels underperformed, or just didn’t match up to the original. DOOM II slashed all expectations!
Even as the game wasn’t dramatically different from the original it was a continuation in the story line. The main focus was on the survival of humanity after the invasion of Hell’s army. And what an army it was!
The game amps up on the body count. And the challenge keeps building up in a sequel no one thought could top the original masterpiece. It’s most noticeable add ones? A brand new weapon- the double barrel shot gun!
Another add to the series was multiplayer gameplay. Most would think titles like Goldeneye 007 and Halo brought FPS to online gameplay. But this sequel beat them to to punch! And well before broadband service was introduced.
Like it’s predecessor all sorts of ports were made for DOOM II, and can be downloaded for modern consoles and smart phones.
Love to tear and rip in the first DOOM? You ain’t seen nothing yet!
Stay tuned for more retro reviews in this classic series!
