“I dare you to say his name”
We are beginning to hear the bees buzzing as the Candyman reboot claws it’s way closer to the big screen!
Universal/MGM dropped the trailer to the highly anticipated Candyman, which hits theathers June 12th, 2020. Jordan Peele and Win Rosenfeld team up putting pen to paper to recreate the Clive Barker/Benard Rose based characters, and add some of their own with Nia DaCosta sitting in the cockpit as director.
What to expect?!
As discussed during Slasher Radio Podcast Episode 122, character Helen Lyle will be returning to the film and will now be played by Cassie Kramer. Tony Todd has been heavily rumored to be returning to reclaim his iconic role as Candyman himself. That nostalgia factor is great and definitely an aiding factor that helps when resurrecting a franchise, a-la 2018 Halloween, but I think Jordan Peele brings more than just story-writing to the table. As we seen in Peele’s directorial debut Get Out (2017) then again in his sophomore film Us (2019), from a cinematographic stand point, was stellar on many levels and that can’t-put-your-finger-on-it touch that works so well in the horror genre. I feel this will bring Candyman that high-quality visual aspect that it deserves.
Will they stay true to the original story? How far off will they veer? How will Nia DaCosta fare in her first director role in a feature length horror film? Will Tony Todd actually return to play Candyman?! We have to wait for more details to pour out.
Until then, check out the official trailer below!
